Family Room Transformed!

We received our Samsung Q800A Sound Bar this week and couldn’t be more pleased. While waiting for it, my wife was asking why we would want a sound bar for our Samsung QLED TV in the family room. Now that it’s in and going, she completely gets it. It all but instantly transformed our large family room into a mini home theater – and we have a dedicated home theater room in our house upstairs!
I’m an audiophile by nature, in part because I’m a musician. I’ve played professionally for years, and both understand and appreciate what good sound is all about. Our family room is a challenging place for good sound due to the high ceilings and that we also watch from adjacent rooms with regular height ceilings. The odd shape means sound must carry without being too loud. This sound bar fit perfectly in terms of size on our TV stand, and we placed the subwoofer to the side.
Setup of the hardware was simple. I’m a fan of hard-wired connections and using the right tools to keep cables out of the way. This was easy with the cable management and HDMI cable included. The look is clean and efficient. By using the wired connection, our QLED TV automatically recognized the sound bar and set itself up to use it. Setup was to plug it in and turn it on. SmartThings setup wasn’t so easy. It took several tries, using every troubleshooting suggestion and taking more than a day, to get the sound bar to register itself on our home network. Once done, managing the sound bar is intuitive with the SmartThings app.
The sound itself transformed the room. Deep bass from the subwoofer when needed, clear midrange that needs almost no adjusting on EQ, and highs that ring out without screeching. When turned up, the sound is crisp with no distortion. But the true measure of any sound system is when it’s turned down. It takes power and engineering to get high quality sound at a low volume. The Q800A doesn’t disappoint here. Even when turned down, the sound remains full and detailed, without losing quality. This shows up best in Adaptive Sound Mode. As we change what we watch from regular TV to a good movie, to playing music, everything just works. Baby Shark Remix never sounded so good to our 1-year-old. She just smiled when she heard it for the first time.
If you are looking for awesome sound for your QLED TV in a good-sized room with high ceilings, odd shapes, and want something that doesn’t visually overwhelm your furniture, look no further. Samsung got it right with the Q800A.
