Barilla® Chickpea Rotini
A Healthy Substitute

The Barilla chickpea rotini cooked just like regular pasta in a quick amount of time as was indicated on the box. It was very easy to make, and so was the recipe preparation adding broccoli and roasted red peppers. I also appreciate the simple and healthy ingredients in the pasta, which makes you feel better eating a normally carb and sodium heavy dish. The pasta came out a little chewy though in the texture and it lacks some of the consistency you get with regular pasta. This was just okay in flavor I would say as compared to most other pastas I’ve tried. I added some of these parmesan flakes per the recipe and that helped slightly. The recipe definitely needed some sort of pasta sauce to liven it up a little bit. It was lacking in taste and flavor just cooking this pasta and adding olive oil as the base. It needed more spice and some additional tomato-based sauce to make it really worthwhile as an Italian dish. There was a decent amount of pasta in the box, at least enough for two square meals. The Chickpea Spaghetti with Fresh Green Beans & Cherry Tomatoes and the Red Lentil Spaghetti with Cherry Tomatoes, Fresh Basil & Toasted Pistachio recipes were vast improvements over the first recipe, and both tasted great without needing any additional sauce or cheeses added. I normally don’t like pasta with some sort of marinara or sauce so that is saying something. The fact that these spaghettis and recipes are somewhat healthy is an added bonus! I appreciate the opportunity to try out this alternative pasta and hope the other types of Barilla pastas have similar to offer! I received this product for free in exchange for my honest opinion.
